Life Lessons learned from Eddie Burrito- June 22, 2011

My husband calls me on the phone, I am riding a horse on a gorgeous hillside with a friend and he says. " They have this little kitten in a box, and he is tiny, think I could bring him home?" I am thinking this is weird, my husband who tells me NEVER BRING ANOTHER ANIMAL HOME! Is asking me about a kitten. I said "Well Sure!". When we got him, his eyes were still shut, and he had a cold. The guy who had him in his office, after passing this kitten around in the city offices, was Eddie Plunkett. So of course we named the kitten Eddie. Then my son had him wrapped up in a white cloth and he looked like a cat burrito, hence the name Eddie Burrito.

I kept a journal on a lot of Eddie's experiences, and here is some of the records:

June 22,2011
We got Burrito on Thursday almost a week ago. The first 24 hours, I force fed him-then he licked offof my hand, and I noticed he had a cold. I waited till Monday for Amoxicillan. He seeemed to be getting stronger. Until Monday Afternoon. I was allowing him to go longer between feedings, Shelby fed him for the first time today. that morning. He would wake up like every 4-5 hours to be fed. He only weighed 2 oz. Then taht day and the next, after I gave him the first .25 CC of Amoxy, he bagan to crash, until that evening. I went to feed him and he was limp and cold. As near death as I have seen a creature. I got online to research what to do, so I fed him water with Karo syrup every hour all night long. I quit the amoxy until he got better. It was 1:30 in the Wednesday morning. He was still alive, but had lost one ounce.I tripled this feeding amount. He was unwilling to eat again, so I had to force feed him. But I fed until his belly would get a little round, per the internet suggestion. Now, I am back on KMR every 3-4 hours and he is standing and moving weakly. Last night he could not lift his head. I am sleepy and asking God what lessons I am learning from this small kitten, Eddie Burrito?
Lesson #1 I got lax in my schedule and let time slip in and procrastination, so it resulted in the possiblity of death. I had read a few instructions, but not enough. The result-Near Death!

Lesson#2 There is always more room for love and affection

Lesson #3 If I am willing to help this samll kitty with such a large effort, why not a human?or humans? Why not save a human, hold a human, hold a dying human that no one holds? Why Not?

Lesson#4 It only takes a few slips to lose a life. Death is near your door, what do you eat to keep you alive? What do you drink?

Lesson #5 When you go backwards, it takes alot more effort to go forward and get back to where you were before you fell.

So far, all this from a kitten.

Will my life change because of it? God I pray you show me it will. You have always used animals to teach me life lessons. You can always get me with animals. It proves how many times you forgive me. Today I wander why kittens have to suffer? I ask you to give me the power to heal it.

God,
My back is hurting, I have heartburn, and lack of sleep, over a 2 oz kitten. Perhaps I should be more patient. I love you Lord, I lift my baby hands up to you to hold me, massage my back, make my chest fell better and rock me to a heavenly sleep.
